  12. INTRODUCTION:

  14.      FINALLY! A Windows add-on that has all the most popular utilities 
  15. integrated into one application.  POWER TOOLZ incorporates Calculator,
  16. Ultra fast exit Windows function, 20 page clipboard extender, DOS shell, 
  17. Command line function, and an absolutely AWESOME file manager replacement 
  18. with built in WAV player, Icon Viewer, program launcher, and more!!!  And 
  19. if that's not enough, POWER TOOLS has a user configurable application 
  20. launcher to keep your most popular apps only a click away!

  22. So stop littering your desktop with tons of messy utilities and switch to 
  23. POWER TOOLS.  POWER TOOLZ resides on your desktop as an unobtrusive little 
  24. button (same size as the minimize button) ready to help you power through 
  25. a days work.

  27. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
  28.  
  29. Requires Windows version 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
  30. Requires VBRUN300.DLL in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  31. Requires PKZIP version 2.04G or newer.
  32.  
  33. INSTALLATION:
  34.  
  35. 1) Copy PTOOLZ.ZIP to its own directory along with PKUNZIP.EXE.
  36.    (if you have your path set up to find pkunzip.exe you don't need to 
  37.    copy it).
  38.     
  39. 2) First unzip POWER TOOLZ using pkunzip.exe.
  40.      - type 'pkunzip ptoolz10.zip'.  POWER TOOLZ will be uncompressed.
  41.      - You should receive the following files:
  42.         
  43.           PTOOLZ.EXE -->  POWER TOOLZ executable
  44.           THREED.VBX -->  Library file needed by POWER TOOLZ
  45.           README.NOW -->  This file
  46.           FILE_ID.DIZ --> Brief description of POWER TOOLZ
  47.  
  48. 3) Run windows by typing 'WIN' or by typing 'PTOOLZ'.
  49.  
  50. 4) In Program Manager select a program group to receive POWER TOOLZ.  We
  51. reccommend selecting the 'STARTUP' program group so POWER TOOLZ will be
  52. run anytime you start Windows.
  53.  
  54. 5) Select the 'File' menu by pressing ALT + F or by clicking on the 
  55. dropdown menu.
  56.  
  57. 6) Select the new option by clicking on 'New' or by pressing ALT + N.
  58.  
  59. 7) Select 'New Program' option then press 'OK'.
  60.  
  61. 8) Type in a Description, we reccommend 'POWER TOOLZ'.
  62.  
  63. 9) Press the 'Browse' button then go to the directory containing PTOOLZ.EXE.
  64. After selecting this file press 'OK' to get back to the previous box.
  65.  
  66. 10) Press 'OK' again and the POWER TOOLZ icon will appear in the program
  67. group you selected.

  69. 11) Double click the POWER TOOLS icon to start the program.
  70.  
  71. OPERATION:
  72.  
  73.      POWER TOOLZ will appear as a small button in the upper right hand side
  74. of your screen.  clicking on this button exposes a popup menu.  All choices
  75. are selected from this menu.  The following is a brief summary of each 
  76. POWER TOOLZ function.  Upon registering you will receive a full manual 
  77. explaining in detail all the POWER TOOLZ functions.

  79. CALCULATOR:  This is just an ordinary calculator that includes a decimal or
  80. hexadecimal mode for programmers.  Pressing the 'DEC' button switches to 
  81. hexadecimal mode and pressing the 'HEX' buton toggles back.
  82.  
  83. TO DO LIST:  This allows you to keep a list of things to remember.  You
  84. can enter items on the list, cross them out when done, and make a printout.
  85. All items on your list are automatically saved to disk and crossed out items
  86. are purged daily (or when you exit windows).  A handy popup menu will appear
  87. when you click the right mouse button anyplace on the list.

  89. PT FILE MANAGER:  This allows you to copy and delete files, make directories
  90. and delete directories, and launch applications.  Double clicking on a file 
  91. name or highlighting a file name and pressing the rocket will automatically
  92. execute the file if it is a program file.  Or if the file is an icon file, 
  93. bitmap file, text file, or wave file the file manager will display or play 
  94. these files to you using the appropriate program.  Bitmap files are loaded 
  95. windows paint, text files are displayed in windows notepad, wave files are
  96. played on a sound blaster card if one exists, and icons are viewed on the 
  97. icon viewer that comes with POWER TOOLS.  A powerful feature in PT File 
  98. Manager is the ability to select and view multiple files.  If you select
  99. several files they will ALL be displayed or played when you press the rocket
  100. button.  Wave files are played in alphabetical order.  A handy popup menu
  101. will also appear when you click the right mouse button anyplace on the 
  102. PT File Manager window.
  103.  
  104. Drop to DOS:  This selection runs a DOS window each time you select it. 
  105. Multiple DOS windows are supported.
  106.  
  107. Command line:  Typing a DOS command in this will execute that command and
  108. return any errors.
  109.  
  110. Scrapbook:  Select this option then minimize it at the bottom of your 
  111. screen.  At 5 second intervals it will read the contents of the clipboard 
  112. to see if you copied any text there.  If you did, it places that new text
  113. in the scrapbook so you can retrive it later.  The scrapbook can hold
  114. up to 20 scraps of text.  You can also save the contents to disk for future
  115. use if needed.

  117. Configure POWER TOOLZ:  This screen allows you to set up POWER TOOLS to your
  118. liking.  The top section allows you to add programs that will appear in the 
  119. popup menu.  The bottom left box allows you to turn off POWER TOOLS 
  120. utilities that you don't want to show in the popup menu.  The middle box 
  121. allows you to display a button bar with all your selected applications
  122. listed in the buttons.  The bottom right box allows you to select the 
  123. appearance and position of the POWER TOOLS button.
  124.  
  125. NOTE: The POWER TOOLS button can be disabled in favor of the button bar.
  126. If you choose this option you can access the menu by clicking the right
  127. mouse button over the button section of the button bar.
  128.  
  129. Exit POWER TOOLZ: This suspends operation of the POWER TOOLS program. 
  130.  
  131. Exit Windows: This dumps you out of windows without showing you the stupid 
  132. window asking you if you really want to quit.

  134.      So that's about it for the instructions.  As you play with POWER TOOLZ
  135. you will find more features and options that you will find useful.

  138. TROUBLESHOOTING:
  139.  
  140. Q: How come when I try to print something it comes out garbled or messed up?
  141.  
  142. A: Check your printer driver.  This usually happens when an incorrect print
  143. driver is installed.  Call the manufacturer or Microsoft for an up to date
  144. driver.
  145.  
  146. Q: I get a message saying that I need 'VBRUN300.DLL', WHY?
  147.  
  148. A: VBRUN300.DLL is a library file needed by POWER TOOLS and many other 
  149. applications that are written in Visual Basic.  Unfortunately Microsoft
  150. did not include this file with Windows, so you need to get a copy.  Most
  151. BBS's have this file available for download.  If you can't find a copy
  152. send in the registration to the address below and you will receive a 
  153. complete version of POWER TOOLS on disk that will include all needed files.
  154. When you get this file you need to copy in into the WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  155. directory this will allow other applications to make use of it.

  157. Q: When I try to get into the setup screen I get wierd error messages, WHY?
  158.  
  159. A: This may be caused by a conflict with the library file THREED.VBX.  You
  160. should first verify that the directory that POWER TOOLS resides in, is not
  161. in your path statement.  This usually fixes most problems, however if this 
  162. still does not work find the existing THREED.VBX file (probably in your
  163. WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory) and copy it on to a floppy.  Then replace the
  164. existing THREED.VBX with the one from POWER TOOLS.  If this causes problems
  165. simply delete the new version and replace it with the copy on your floppy.
